Key visual for Mío##: a performer in a rainbow costume with a plush dog on their head, framed by colourful videogame-style tracks and euro coins.

Mío##

Performance / Installation · 2025

Mío## is a live stream reimagined as a videogame, where the playable character is replaced by a real person wandering through the city. Their movement is triggered by participants acting as players—whether online or present in the exhibition space—who, through a transactional logic of buying and selling a service, control the route through payments that authorize each segment.

The project proposes a choreographic framework in which the performer's transit operates as a metaphor for migration, a journey that is conditioned, fragmented, and governed by external forces. In this way the performer's body acts as a pencil to draw over the city's map as a canvas. The resulting path doesn't stem from individual will, but from a collective choreography shaped by the interaction of multiple agents.

The artwork further articulates this logic through the use of live streaming platforms and an imagery linked to Latin American street markets, where the exchange of goods is intertwined with dynamics of supply and appropriation. The title refers to a recent selling practice in Bolivian live streams, where those wishing to purchase a product claim it by saying “mío” (mine in Spanish) alongside their price. In Mío##, this gesture is transposed onto the moving body: participants not only enable displacement but also quantify it, highlighting the commodification of time, mobility, and life, especially in contexts fraught with precariousness and inequality.

In Between Us

Installation / app · 2025

A texting application that uses AI to rewrite every message. By transforming the original content, it creates a buffer between the sender's raw thoughts and the recipient's understanding, subtly softening the sender's intentions. While the app aims to foster communication that feels both harmless and assertive, it also exposes the inherent gap between genuine expression and the mediated message that is ultimately received.

Choreographic performance · 2025

Created by Zhuojun Li (CN), Darya Sheiko (BY), Darya Kostskina (BY), Junjian Wang (CN), Patrick Ortiz (BO), Christine Haupt (DE), Hanif Haghtalab (IR), Hanna Kortus (DE), Alireza Khosroabadi (IR)

A choreographic performance exploring fragmented notions of home and daily rituals through personal movement scores. Created by Anton Bruckner University dancers and Interface Cultures media artists, it unfolds through a range of emotions, fears and the textures of daily actions. The performance creates a dynamic interplay between collective and individual movements, raising the curtain to reveal personal spaces in everyday life—growing into a rave via movement-based, audiovisual interaction.

Being, Between

Installation · 2025

Created by Gustiele Fistaról (BR), Patrick Ortiz (BO)

An interactive installation that attempts to bridge distances and materialize the ephemeral traces that flow between bodies in an encounter. Participants are connected from different locations, and their biodata weave a shared experience. Transformed into tactile vibrations, their encounter becomes a dialogue between signal and flesh. What remains of connection when bodies speak through data? In an era of simulation, is the other truly there?

I woke up in the same bed as yesterday, I do what I've already done. It feels like I'm stuck. But lethargy slowly wears me down and leaves only exhaustion. Stillness is an idea that blinds me, a relief from the inevitable, constant, and repetitive movement. The performance highlights the time-lapse by exposing the artist to an app that memorises and showcases the movements of the performer.

OnChange() Residency

Residency · 2019

Directed by Patrick Ortiz · Residents Alicia Aviles and Miguel Claros

In July 2019, three artists from the fields of dance, sound, and software gathered together to create an experience where communication and interaction between performer and audience is not only enabled by web technologies but is also the main subject of the piece. The residency took place over twelve sessions at the Cultural Centre Simon I. Patiño in Cochabamba, Bolivia.

Contemporary dance / app · 2019

Directed by Patrick Ortiz · Performed by Alicia Aviles · Sound direction by Miguel Claros · Software by Patrick Ortiz

An interactive performance that proposes a role-play between the audience and the performer, where the illusion of control over others interchanges constantly, reflecting the defects of practicing democracy. The audience accesses a website on their smartphones where they are prompted to interact and define the direction of the performance, while the performer controls the sound and the projected animations through three smartphones attached to her body.

Patrick Ortiz is a Bolivian artist and computer scientist who began his career in contemporary dance. His fascination with online communication, language, and virtual societies led him to explore information technologies. This background allowed his performances to become interactive, delving into themes of control and social roles mediated by technology. His work seeks to create interactive spaces where both artists and spectators play an active role in the performative event.
